How to Find Recently Released Marion County Inmates
Start with the county jail roster. Marion County does not publish a separate "recently released" page, but the roster shows release data. Search the Web Jail Viewer by name and booking date. A row with a populated release date means that booking ended. There is also a scheduled release date for people still in custody.
A booking detail page makes this clear, as shown below.
The Marion jail booking detail shows release and scheduled release fields.
If the roster does not answer your question, call the Marion County Jail at 503-588-8595 to confirm a release.
Scheduled Release vs Actual Release Date
The Marion County roster shows two release fields, and they are not the same. The scheduled release date is a projected date for someone still in custody. The release date is the day a booking actually ended. Read both before you assume a person is out.
Several things can move a scheduled date. A new charge, a hold for another agency, or a transfer to state prison can all change it. A federal hold can keep someone in custody past a county release. When the date matters, do not rely on the projection alone. Confirm with the jail, and set a VISOR alert so a change reaches you fast.
Setting Up Release Notifications with VISOR
VISOR is Oregon's free custody notification service. It watches county and state custody and alerts you when an adult in custody is released or moved. You can get alerts by phone call, email, or text. Marion County links VISOR right from its jail pages.
The Marion VISOR page explains custody-status notification, shown below.
- Go to the statewide VISOR site or call 1-888-749-8080.
- Search by name, offender number, or booking number.
- Register for alerts by phone, email, or text.
You will need a SID number or an Inmate ID. The Inmate ID is on the Marion County roster, and the jail can give a SID at 503-588-8595. The statewide search is shown below.
The Oregon VISOR site searches custody status statewide.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search bar | Text | No | Name, offender number, or booking number. |
| Registration contact | Web / phone / email | No | Notify by phone call, email, or text. |
| Phone hotline | Phone | n/a | 1-888-749-8080. |
Searching the Oregon Department of Corrections
A person sentenced to state prison leaves the Marion County jail for the Oregon Department of Corrections. The DOC runs its own offender search. It provides custody and release information as a public service. Official or certified copies need a separate public records request.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| SID / Offender Number | Text | No | Search by state ID number if known. |
| First Name | Text | No | Search by name. |
| Last Name | Text | No | Search by name. |
You can reach the Oregon DOC offender search from the department's victim services page.
Federal Bureau of Prisons Locator
Federal custody is tracked by the Bureau of Prisons, not the county or the state. The BOP locator covers people in federal custody from 1982 forward. A release date may not be current, because sentence credits can change it, so check again over time.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Register Number | Text | No | BOP, DCDC, FBI, or INS number under Find By Number. |
| Last Name | Text | Yes | Required for a name search. |
| First / Middle | Text | No | Narrows a name search. |
| Race / Age / Sex | Dropdown | No | Optional filters. |
Use the federal BOP inmate locator for anyone held in federal custody.
Searching the Marion County Roster by Booking Date
The Web Jail Viewer is not just for current inmates. It also helps you find a past booking. Use the Booking From and Booking To date fields to set a window around the time you think someone was in the Marion County Jail. That narrows results and helps when a name is common.
Pair the dates with a last name for the cleanest result. If you only know an approximate week, widen the range a little. A booking with a filled release date confirms the person left that stay. Keep in mind the roster reflects county custody, so it will not show a later move to state or federal prison.
Verifying a Marion County Release in Person or By Phone
Online tools can lag. To confirm a release for certain, go to the source. Call the Marion County Jail at 503-588-8595. For state prison, contact the Oregon DOC. The Oregon DOJ explains how VISOR notification works by phone, email, or text, as shown below.
The Oregon DOJ VISOR page covers victim notification options.
Pocket property is released at the jail bail window on set days, by written request, to the person named on the release form.
Oregon Sex Offender Registry
The Oregon State Police runs the public sex offender registry. The public site lists Level 3 offenders, the highest risk level, plus some board-authorized disclosures. The registry covers sex offenses only and may not show a full criminal history.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name search | Text | No | Search by offender name. |
| Location / Address | Text | No | Search near an address. |
| City / ZIP / County | Text | No | Area or map radius search. |
Search the Oregon State Police sex offender registry for Level 3 listings.
Parole and Probation in Marion County
Release rarely ends supervision. Many people leave custody onto parole, post-prison supervision, or probation. The Oregon Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision sets parole terms statewide. Locally, the Marion County Sheriff's Office runs community corrections and supervises many clients after release.

Reentry Resources in Marion County
Marion County puts real weight behind reentry. The Marion County Reentry Initiative joins community corrections, education, health, law enforcement, and nonprofits. It coordinates housing, transportation, treatment, mentoring, and jobs for people coming home. A jail reentry program targets higher-risk, drug-dependent men with treatment before release. That program page is shown below.
The Marion County Jail Reentry Program page describes the treatment model.
- Marion County Reentry Initiative: housing, transport, treatment, mentoring, and jobs.
- Marion County Jail Reentry Program: 90 days of treatment at the Transition Center before release.
- Community corrections through the Sheriff's Office for supervision and referrals.
Why a Marion County Name May Not Appear
A blank search result is not a dead end. It usually points you to a different system. The Marion County roster only covers the county jail, so a missing name has a few likely causes. Knowing which one fits saves time.
- The person already left county custody, and the booking dropped off the active view.
- The person moved to state prison and now sits in the Oregon DOC system.
- The person is in federal custody, tracked only by the BOP locator.
- The case is sealed or restricted, so it does not appear publicly.
When the county roster comes up empty, search the state DOC and the BOP locator next, then call the jail to confirm.
Civil Rights Restoration After Release
Release affects civil rights too. In Oregon, people convicted of felonies generally regain the right to vote after they finish incarceration. Confirm current rules with the Secretary of State or Marion County Elections before you rely on this. Firearm rights are different. A set-aside under Oregon law may not restore federal firearm rights in every case, and a guilty-except-for-insanity finding stays federally prohibiting even if set aside. For sealing a record, see Marion County arrest records.
