Marion County Jail Roster Overview
The Marion County Sheriff's Office holds the jail and the roster. Sheriff Nick Hunter leads the office. The Web Jail Viewer is the free public roster of people booked into the Marion County Jail. It refreshes as the jail books and releases people, so the list changes all day. The sheriff's main page links to the jail and its services.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office home page is the gateway to the jail roster and inmate services, shown below.
The roster covers county custody only. It does not list Oregon state prison inmates or federal inmates. For those, see the released inmates and inmate population pages, which cover the state and federal locators.
The sheriff's own bio page names the command staff, shown below.

Knowing the office helps when you call with a question the roster cannot answer.
How to Use the Marion County Inmate Roster
The roster opens with a warning page about accuracy, then lets you search. You can search by any single field or any mix of fields. If you are unsure of a spelling, use the wildcard %. The warning page is shown below.
The Marion Web Jail Viewer warning page leads to the booking search.
- Open the Web Jail Viewer and accept the warning page.
- Enter a last name, first name, or a booking date range.
- Use the % wildcard for partial names, such as sm%th.
- Review the results table, then open a booking for full detail.
A blank location on a result means the person is housed in the Marion County Transition Center.
Marion County Roster Search Fields
The search form is short. Two name fields and two date fields do the work. The booking search screen is shown below.
The Marion jail booking search form accepts these fields.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes / Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | No | Max 20 characters; wildcard % allowed, such as M% or %M. |

Reading Marion County Roster Results
A search returns a results table you can sort. Each row is one booking. Scan the columns to spot the right person, then open the row for the full profile. The Marion County roster results table includes these columns.
- Booking number, first name, last name, and middle name.
- Date of birth, race, and sex for quick matching.
- Booking date, release date, and scheduled release date.
- Location, the housing unit, which is blank for the Transition Center.
A populated release date tells you the person already left that booking. A common name may return many rows, so use the date of birth or a booking date range to narrow it down.

Booking and Bail in Marion County
Booking starts at arrest. Staff record the charges, take a personal description, and classify the person for housing. The jail holds people awaiting trial, those serving sentences of one year or less, federal holds, and people headed to state prison. Mental health staff provide suicide risk screening, brief counseling, and crisis support.
Bail can follow. A security release deposit is generally 10% of the total security the court sets. During business hours, bail is paid at the Criminal Court Annex at 4000 Aumsville Hwy SE. After hours and on weekends, the jail bail window takes cash only. The court keeps a portion of a posted deposit under Oregon rules. For the charges behind a booking, see Marion County arrest records.
Visitation Hours and Rules
Marion County Jail uses video visitation through The Visitor system. Friends and family can visit from a jail kiosk or remotely with the ICS Mobile app. Registration is free, and every visitor is run for warrants first. The visiting desk is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at 503-588-8588. The visiting policy page is shown below.
The jail visiting policy page explains video visits and visitor rules.
General population visiting runs by last name, on a set day each week, as the schedule below shows.

|---|---|---|
| Monday | A-C | Video visit |
| Tuesday | D-J | Video visit |
| Wednesday | K-O | Video visit |
| Thursday | P-S | Video visit |

You must sign up before the visit time. Seats are limited and first come, first served, so late visitors are not admitted. The full schedule of sign-up and visit windows is on the schedule page, shown below.
The jail visiting schedule page lists the sign-up and visit windows by unit.
There are no make-up visits for holidays or facility needs, so plan around your assigned day.
Mail, Money, and Phone Contact
Mail goes to the adult in custody by name and SID number at 4000 Aumsville Hwy SE, Salem, OR 97317. Mail must be postcard style or letters of 10 written pages or fewer, with no blank pages. The jail blocks stickers, tape, glitter, perfume, crayon, and many other items. The mail rules page is shown below.
The jail mail rules page lists what mail is allowed and what is rejected.
Money and commissary run through outside vendors. Use Access Secure Deposits by kiosk, mail, phone at 1-866-345-1884, or accesscorrections.com. Fees apply. Commissary packages can be ordered at 1-800-546-6283 or marioncountypackages.com. Adults in custody may make collect calls but cannot receive calls; phone account help is at 1-888-506-8407 through ICSolutions.
Release Notifications for Marion County Inmates
You do not have to keep checking the Marion County roster by hand. Oregon's VISOR service can do it for you. VISOR is free. It tracks custody status for county and state facilities, and it can alert you by phone, email, or text when an adult in custody is released or moved.
Sign up at visor.oregon.gov or call 1-888-749-8080. You will need a SID number or an Inmate ID number. The Inmate ID shows on the Marion County roster, and the jail can give you a SID number at 503-588-8595. For more on release status and the state and federal locators, see released inmates.
Programs and Mental Health at the Marion County Jail
The Marion County Jail is more than a holding facility. More than 100 citizen volunteers run programs inside. Those include Alcoholics Anonymous, drug and alcohol education, a GED program, and religious services. Work assignments such as kitchen and laundry are tied in part to good behavior.
Mental health support is built in. Staff provide suicide risk assessment, brief counseling, crisis intervention, medication referral, and transition services. The jail does not release an adult in custody's medical information without a signed release naming a specific person. These programs shape how long some people stay and how they leave the Marion County system.
Marion County Jail vs State and Federal Custody
The roster only covers county custody. A person sentenced to state prison moves to the Oregon Department of Corrections. A person in federal custody is tracked by the Bureau of Prisons. If a name is not on the Marion roster, the person may be in one of those systems, already released, or never booked here.
For release dates and notifications, including the state and federal locators, see Marion County released inmates. For population and capacity data, see inmate population.
