Marion County Circuit Court Overview

Oregon runs a unified court system. The state funds and manages the trial courts, organized into 27 judicial districts across the 36 counties. Marion County is the 3rd Judicial District. Its circuit court is a court of general jurisdiction, which means it hears nearly every kind of case.

That broad reach is why so many records point back to this one court. Criminal, civil, family, probate, juvenile, traffic, and small claims matters all run through the Marion County Circuit Court. The old "Marion County Court" was a county governing body, abolished in 1963, so the modern court is a state trial court despite the similar name.
